Alby congratulates Hume’s Australian Local Hero

The Federal Member for Hume, Alby Schultz MP has congratulated Mrs Lynne Sawyers of Wyangala on being named Australia’s Local Hero in the 2012 Australian of the Year Awards.

“I’m delighted that Mrs Sawyers has been named Australia’s Local Hero at the 2012 Australian of the Year Awards for her many years of service to the Wyangala and Cowra communities as a foster mother who has shared her home, her family and her love with over 200 children in the past 15 years,” Alby said.

“Mrs Sawyers is the only recipient of this award and is a deserving acknowledgment of her commitment and dedication to the welfare of some of the most vulnerable children in our society,” Alby said.

“Providing foster care for over 200 children is no small feat; especially when considering Mrs Sawyers is actively involved in other aspects of community life and had her own family to raise,” Alby added.

“We are very proud to have such an upstanding local recognised for her tremendous volunteer work,” Alby concluded.
